Benghazi, 19 June 2014:
Air forces loyal to General Khalifa Hafter again carried out strikes on Benghazi’s . . .[restrict]Hawari, Sidi Faraj and Guwarsha districts this afternoon.
The spokesman for Operation Dignity, Mohamed Hijazi, told the Libya Herald that Hafter’s forces had bombed the areas, as they have done several times in the past month, because Ansar Al-Sharia had returned to their previous bases and strongholds. He refused to discuss the mission’s specific targets saying this would compromise the operation.
Hijazi confirmed that Islamist groups had earlier targeted Benghazi’s Benina Airport and Tobruk Airbase. He claimed 17 February Brigade had attacked the airbase at Tobruk because of the town’s consistent support for Operation Dignity. He added that the assaults with grad missiles had not caused any human casualties or material losses.
Life continued as normal today in Benghazi as residents become increasingly accustomed to infrequent bombing.
