The Japanese government’s contribution will help fund the project ‘Support to Battle Area Clearance and Explosive Ordinance Disposal’, according to the UN Special Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). The project, which will be carried out in partnership with the Libyan authorities, starts in April and will run until March 2015.
It aims to step up clearance and disposal operations of explosive remnants of war, unsecured ammunition and weapons, to help make the country safer and more secure, UNSMIL said. Communities in the areas of Hun, Suknah and Waddan will directly benefit, it added.
