Tripoli, 5 March 2014:
Ali Wanis Bukhamada, son of Benghazi Special Forces commander Wanis Bukhamada, was released this morning after . . .[restrict]being held in captivity for over a month.
A source close to the Special Forces, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the Libya Herald that Ali Bukhamada was now among his family.
“He is injured, with a gunshot wound to one leg,” he said. This injury, he added, was sustained during his abduction outside Benghazi University on 30 January.
No details have been released about his release. “Ali Bukhamada has not spoken publicly about his captive and it is understood that he will not,” the source added.
The incident provoked two days of clashes between Special Forces and the 17 February Brigade, which many believed to be behind the kidnapping. The brigade, however, denied any involvement. [/restrict]
